Study Hub / Club Staidéir

Coláiste na Carraige offers all exam class students the opportunity to join our study hub. This is a teacher-led study period on Monday (16:15pm until 18:15pm) and Tuesday to Thursday (15:30pm until 17:30pm). Booking is essential and payment is in advance to Ms O’Malley.

Subject Choice / Rogha Ábhair

Coláiste na Carraige encourages students to select their subject choices based on their own interests and offers career counselling to every student. Please contact Mr. Griffin for an appointment.

Student Mentoring

Coláiste na Carraige offers senior cycle academic mentoring to all fifth and sixth year students. Teachers guide and encourage students to engage with their studies and offer academic advice when requested. Students will also engage with the school's career guidance services through Mr Griffin.

Junior Cycle / An tSraith Shóisearach

All students are prepared for the Department of Education’s Junior Certificate examinations.

Transition Year / Idirbhliain

The Transition Year programme in Coláiste na Carraige is designed around future career choices. Our teachers offer three modules per year which vary from one year to the next. In science we offer Astrophysics, Forensics and Pharmaceuticals. In English we offer Creative writing, Poetry and Drama. This modular structure to learning is supported by work experience and problem based learning. There are many opportunities for learning outside of the classroom and the school encourages all TY students to engage actively with these activities. 

Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP) / Gairmchlár na hArdteistiméireachta (GCAT)

The Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme involves undertaking two additional subjects: Enterprise Education and Preparation for the World of Work.

The LCVP yields significant additional points within the CAO system of application for third level places. A Distinction in LCVP is awarded 66 points in the Leaving Certificate examination.
