Aims of our DEIS plan in Coláiste na Carraige 2023

The purpose of this document is to broadly communicate what we have prioritised under each of the DEIS themes. Monitoring and Evaluation of our plan is currently under way and a we will communicate our progress in regard to each of the themes listed below towards the end of term 1 in the new school year. All the information we will share shall be based on data evidence, both qualitative and quantitive.

Attainment

  • We aim to increase our overall points average at Leaving Certificate.

  • We aim to increase the percentage of students attaining Higher Merits and Exceptional in the Junior Cycle.

  • We aim to increase levels of achievement in Classroom Based Assessments.

Attendance

  • We aim to reduce the level of absenteeism overall with particular emphasis1st, 5th and Transition Year Students.

Literacy

  • We aim to raise the standard of Junior Cycle students ability in the area of vocabulary.

  • We aim to increase Junior Cycle students confidence in oral presentation.

  • We aim to increase the number of students that read in their own time.

  • We aim to put supports in place for students who do not have English as a first language to improve their overall competency in the language.

Numeracy

  • We aim to improve 1st year students ability in the areas of probability, Geometry, Area, measurements, interpreting data and fractions.

  • We aim to increase the number of Junior Cycle students taking Higer Level maths. Partnership with Others

  • We aim to increase the number of work experience placements on offer to Transition and 5th Year students.

  • We aim to expand the number of Counselling Services we currently engage with.

Partnership with Parents

  • We aim to increase the attendance at Parent Teacher meetings and to increase the number of educational events available to parents.

  • We aim to increase the number of Parents actively using VSware on a weekly basis.

Retention

  • We currently have a 100% retention rate at Junior Cycle which we aim to maintain and a very high rate at Senior Cycle which we aim to improve.

Transitions

  • We aim to increase the number of student progressing to 3rd level education.

  • We aim to raise satisfaction levels among incoming 1st Year students. We aim to increase the number of Senior Cycle students who are happy with their subject choices.
